Yesterday I noticed that wayside stop markers were appearing on the transportation overlay on Google Earth. Unlike the namesake station closer to the lake, Kinalung still bore the triangular scar of the rail junction where they turned the water trains around.

I opened a rival mapping service and studied the terrain in hitherto unseen detail. A pumping station stood on the site of the Tiboonda pub and a clearing betrayed the site of John Grant’s one room school. Given the remoteness and hostility of the environment, artifacts of the buildings and film shoot might still exist like the detritus of the moon landing. One may even be able to find things like railway sleepers visible in the opening pan shot unmoved after forty-five years. …’
